Participants were 143 female junior college students. They answered questionnaires regarding what family members call each other and family functioning (family cohesion and family adaptability). As a result, families in which daughters called their fathers “papa” were significantly higher in family cohesion and family adaptability than families in which daughters called their fathers “ Otosan (father)”.
